I want to start my story by saying I have never felt better in my life. I never thought I would be able to accomplish what I have at age 46. I have struggled with my weight all my life. I played sports as a teen and have always enjoyed being active but have always struggled with my eating. I am an emotional eater and a few years ago, I lost my Mom, Dad and sister in a short span of time. I was devastated and ate my way up to over 240lbs. I tried for years to lose the weight. I would start to work out and eat healthy but it would only last a short time. Life was just way too busy. I work full time, my husband went back to school, I have 3 children and two of them are involved in many sports and between work, taking care of the house and being involved with my children, I never seemed to have time to dedicate to myself.
Ring in 2013, my husband has finished school, my kids are a little older, although still involved in every sport, and my cousin told me she joined Life Time. My husband and I decided to join also. My cousin joined the Life Time Team Weight Loss classes and started losing weight. I shortly thereafter followed her, which was the best decision I have ever made for myself. I told my husband I needed to take a few months and dedicate the time to myself to get healthy. My husband was extremely supportive and took over taking the kids to all their practices and doing more around the house. My kids were also very supportive and never complained when I wasn’t around. I loved the classes and started losing weight. Trainer, Rudy Guzman took over the class about 3 weeks after I started. Rudy is the most amazing trainer I have ever worked with. He made me really believe in myself for the first time. I quickly started seeing results and feeling better. Then the 90-Day Challenge started. I had to sign up. I told Rudy the day I signed up that I was going to win it! I continued with the Team Weight Loss class all through the 90-Day Challenge and also started taking 1 personal training session a week with Rudy. That was when I really started noticing my clothes getting loose. In the Team Weight Loss classes, Rudy encouraged us every step of the way, he was so motivating and had the exact right formula we needed to lose weight and size. I could not believe the results I was getting. Rudy talked to us about eating healthy every day until we can look in the mirror and be really happy with what we see. Taking that class and meeting Rudy has completely changed my life.
I read everything I could about eating healthy and losing weight. I used all the tools possible. I bought the fitbit and made sure I walked at least 20,000 steps 6 days a week. I used a heart rate monitor; I started just moving as much as possible. I still made it to all my kid’s sports games, but when they played football, which was about a mile away from my house, I would walk there and back home. My son played soccer about 3 miles from home; I started jogging to his games. As the weight came off it just got easier to move. Now I love to run and I still love the Life Time Team Weight Loss classes. This is the first time in my entire life I have reached my goal weight.
I learned so much about eating healthy and what it takes to lose and maintain weight loss. I did not follow any specific diet plan. I did increase my protein intake and cut out processed foods. I ate a lot of vegetables and fruits and lean proteins. Every Sunday I would go grocery shopping and come home and cut up veggies and make salads and chicken and fish for the week. I ate something that included protein every 4-5 hours so I didn’t get hungry and drank only water or tea. If I was unsure of anything I would talk to Rudy and he would help and encourage me to stay on track. He was an incredible motivator. There were a few times I struggled and Rudy kept me on track, made me truly believe I could accomplish this. He gave me the tools and workouts I needed to be successful. It does take a lot of work and dedication, but it is possible and absolutely worth the effort. Prior to starting Life Time Team Weight Loss, I was on medication for high cholesterol and had high blood pressure and chronic migraines. I have been taken off all medication and have not had a migraine in 3 months. My AHA moment came a couple weeks ago. Rudy had us holding a 25 lb. plate while walking on the treadmill and I was thinking how heavy the plate was and then it dawned on me that I had lost 3 of those plates off my body. I was in shock and at that moment realized that I would never go back.
So many people have been amazed at my success and ask how I did it. I did it for my family and me. I did it because I learned to believe in myself. When I first started the Life Time Team Weight Loss class, I couldn’t even run more than 2 minutes, now I can run for miles. I have signed up to do a 5K on Thanksgiving morning. I wake up and look in the mirror or go shopping and for the first time I smile. I went shopping and realized I fit into a size 6 jeans and I literally sat on the dressing room floor and cried. This is possible; you just have to believe in yourself and work hard. It helps to have support. As Rudy told me, sometime we all need a little professional support to make it happen. I have learned the best thing we can do for our kids is take a little time for our health and ourselves. Exercise is the key!! Thank you Life Time and Rudy for helping make this happen and to my amazing husband, kids and friends for all your support.
