I’ll start off by introducing myself and what led me to the 90-Day Challenge. I’m a wife and mother of two and I’ve struggled with my weight since I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism at the age of 10. I watched my weight slowly go up over the years and by the time I had my second child, I was the heaviest I had ever been in my life. I was having back pain, ankle pain and I could barely walk up my stairs without running out of breath. After seeing a few pictures of myself and being advised by my doctor to lose weight because I was borderline diabetic, I decided I needed to do something and take control of my health. My first weigh-in was with Evan. I weighed in at 227.1 with a body fat percentage of 51.4%. I explained my hectic schedule and that it was almost impossible for me to make time commitments. Evan encouraged me to participate in all the “Try-It Tuesdays” to help motivate and educate me. We talked about my goals, I made a plan, and told myself “you can do this”.
I felt an array of emotions; I was excited to start the Challenge but also hesitant knowing I had two young children at home. I made the time commitment to show up at every “Try-It Tuesday”. I learned about proper nutrition, how to grocery shop, to eat smart carbs, and work out efficiently. I started eating real foods and stopped calorie counting. The training staff taught me what interval training was and how to stay in my zone. Using the resources given to me from the Life Time staff and “Try-it Tuesdays,” I was accomplishing my weight loss goals on a weekly basis. A piece of advice given by a trainer was to mix up my workout routine with classes and high-intensity interval training. I enjoyed going to the group fitness classes, especially cardio kickboxing, cycling, Strike and C9 Challenge. I also participated in my first 5k and started running regularly.
Planning was a huge part of my success. Every Sunday I would print a calendar for the week ahead, marking the days I would workout and the meals I would have. A typical meal consisted of a protein, complex carb, and a healthy fat. I would be lying if I said it was easy — everyday had its own new challenges and struggles. I suffered severe pain from plantar fasciitis and chaffing from my workouts. Evan recommended using a frozen water bottle to break down the tension and pressure. I finally found relief from the pain and it allowed me to push farther. Whenever I faced a challenge, the Life Time staff was there to assist. I felt stronger with every pound I lost and it motivated me to do more. Toward the end, I felt guilty that I was spending too much time at the gym and not enough time with my family. My husband supported me and assured me getting healthy was the best thing I could do for myself and my family.
On May 7, I had my final weigh-in with Aaron. I weighed in at 159.6, totaling a weight loss of 67.5lbs and my body fat percentage decreased by 17.8%. Overall I lost almost 30% of my weight, and a combined total of 30 inches. I learned so much from Life Time and I really want to continue to work towards my goal after this contest. I met with Denise and we talked about my nutrition and weight loss goals. She, along with all of the staff, is so knowledgeable and helpful. We have a plan going forward to help me get to my goal weight, specific to me. As a busy mom of two, this works for me and my schedule and it will help keep me accountable. I am also looking forward to learning even more about nutrition so I can continue to incorporate that into my lifestyle.
I am no longer dieting, nor will you ever hear those words come out of my mouth again. I have made a lifestyle change and will continue to eat non processed foods and make good healthy choices. Keeping my family healthy is just as important as keeping myself healthy. I was invited to join the Run Club and I will be joining them soon to keep up with my running. Who knows, maybe a marathon is in my future one day! This summer, I am looking forward to taking my kids to the Life Time pool without feeling horrible about myself. I won back my self-confidence, self-esteem, and most importantly, my life. I cannot thank Life Time and their staff enough for giving me the tools and support needed to change my life. Everyone was so welcoming and encouraging and always made me feel like I could approach them with any questions I had. I am forever grateful to Life Time and the 90-Day Challenge. It changed my life for the better and it can change your life too.
